Bad news, very bad news…

I feel tired tonight. I was planning to have a coding evening, and upload the bug I have fixed since some days, but I received this e-mail from Google :

This is a notification that the application, WoW Droid Armory – Donate has been removed from Android Market due to a violation of the Developer Content Policy. [...] Note that repeated violations may result in a suspension of your Android Market Publisher account.

Ouch.

My other application about Starcraft II has been totally removed too.

So I don’t know if the free version will be allowed to live, or will be removed the same way, and after all these days (and nights) of work, I’m a little discouraged…

I decided to upload my last developper’s version anyway. It’s still buggy and many features are lacking, but I don’t have much faith to work on these tonight.

For those who were “considering” donation (when they have their paycheck, when they get married, when they loot they tier 12 set, …), well, I guess it’s too late now.

  1. Ooooops, what happened??? Could you please give us some more informations, what kind of violation they talk about?
Is it a violation against the Blizzard TM? Or is there ‘only’ something with the Google Market?

I love your app and your work and i hope, its only a mistake. Wish you all the best!

  2. That’s a damn shame. You put out a great app for what it matters.

by Xinz on Apr 21, 2011 at 01:11

  3. So because Blizzard won’t get off their butt and make one for Droid, now we have to suffer. This is complete bs

by joe on Apr 21, 2011 at 01:30

  4. That really sucks. I love your app, esp. since blizzard wont make one for android… maybe this means they are planning on releasing an Android version, but this still sucks… hopefully they will allow you to develop in tandem, but blizzard is well known for being a bunch of greedy bastards… good luck in the future, u will watch your future dev. closely….

  6. I’m sorry to hear this news. For what it is worth you have done a great job and am very disappointed that this has happened. This ap is one of the best ones I have. Like Joe said this is bs. Good luck to you.

  7. This IS bad news. I hope the violation thing is a minor one (hopefully one that can be resolved). I’d hate for you, the ONE person looking out for us WoW nerds/Droid users, to feel your efforts have been for nothing. Reguardless, I think I speak for most of us in saying that WE appreciate you and the work you put into the app. Best of luck and thank you!

by Staybreezy on Apr 21, 2011 at 02:36

  8. Well that sucks. I’m sorry to hear it. Maybe blizz will hire u to write one for them! I really love this app……..makes me sad. /hug

by aghony on Apr 21, 2011 at 02:41

  9. I’m ssssooo sry man. You put out, in my opinion, the most useful app out their and its just the best. I wish you the best and hope It was all a mix up and u can keep a great thing going:)

by creamcow on Apr 21, 2011 at 02:44

  10. This is total bs. You put together a great app and they have the nerve to pull it off the market? Maybe its because Blizzard will be coming out with their own, maybe not but it still doesn’t make it right. Is there any way to still get updates privately off the market or would it still violate these rules?

by Torturous on Apr 21, 2011 at 03:00

  11. Actually blizzard are finally working on an android version of their app, so maybe thats why

by antillius on Apr 21, 2011 at 03:03

  12. Not totally unexpected, but very saddening… :( (( especially given that blizzard doesn’t consider making anything as great as this app for droid… this is terrible news indeed…

by Fox on Apr 21, 2011 at 03:37

  13. Hello, if i was you i would ask blizzard for a job. “getting paid for this“ i think they could need some free apps from the game that is usefull like droid armory

by Andreas on Apr 21, 2011 at 03:40

  14. Awesome Google. This really backs up your ‘free market’s claim…

by Greg on Apr 21, 2011 at 03:49

  15. Can we help in anyway? Its sad that google did this to you. Its a great app. Can we donate some other way.

by ffdjackson on Apr 21, 2011 at 17:33

  16. What about the Amazon Appstore? I use it as well as the android market.

Is that a viable option for distributing this great app?

by Sean on Apr 21, 2011 at 17:38

  17. Man, I didn’t know you was private, your app was so Awesome. Wish I would have donated now. This is bs, thanks for all your hardwork!

by Tom on Apr 21, 2011 at 18:30

  18. I actually mentioned to you several months ago that a paid version (donation is a work around term) was against blizzards tos. Adding a link in the free version to give a donation without purchasing anything is fine, and is how many of the ingame addons operate. Offering an enhanced version of the app for money is a no-no.

I’m not the one who reported it, so don’t shoot the messenger.

by pixie on Apr 21, 2011 at 19:29

  19. Mine were taken down too (WoWTalents). Looks like Blizzard removed virtually everything related to their games. You’re lucky your free version is still up for now, most of us didn’t fair so well. It’ll probably be removed very soon…

by Jason (Volatile Labs) on Apr 21, 2011 at 20:03

  20. Horse Shit! Plain and simple >:-(

by matt on Apr 21, 2011 at 20:52

  21. @pixie : I won’t shoot you, and you were right. Anyway, my “paid” (or “donate” :) ) version was not an enhanced one, because it didn’t contain any additional feature.
Anyway, Blizzard is the boss about their legitimate trademarks and ownership. I knew since the start that this would eventually happen.

by Orabîg on Apr 21, 2011 at 21:15

  22. OMFG that’s ridiculous! This is a great app! Those guys are completely ridiculous!!!

by clay on Apr 21, 2011 at 21:56

  23. Seriously, that is really lame to hear. Players helping players is the most encouraging reward you can get from any gamming community. I hope blizzard decides to do something for the droid market. That’s not very cool if they don’t. 1 word. Interplay.

by vivi on Apr 21, 2011 at 23:18

  24. This is BS, Blizzard needs to hire you and get this shit rolling…is there a way to set up a link so those of us that have been on the lazy side of donating can…to your efforts and overall work of one of the best apps on the market.

by honso on Apr 21, 2011 at 23:39

  25. Blizzard should pay you to be developing their Android app. Would probably be better than the app they are working on themselves. Don’t loose faith. You have an awesome app and would be a great shame to loose it.

by Platty on Apr 21, 2011 at 23:57

  26. The only app I use daily. Nice going blizztard.

You should try to sell them the code at least. I hope you get something out of this. A job would be cool.

by travis on Apr 22, 2011 at 01:05

  27. Cant u run the app through a website? Just you megashare or sumular so that members can install the .apk file themselfs, and have a donate button that links to adds free version. You should take this underground. It be a damn shame to give up. And im sure you will have the support of many, many people.

by arghan on Apr 22, 2011 at 01:39

  28. I had the trial for less than a week before I got the “DonateO vrs….have loved it completely! Hope its an issue that can be resolved for I would love to see you finish this cata vrs. Best hopes and don’t get too discouraged.

by brad on Apr 22, 2011 at 02:14

  29. Blizzard does allow free apps, but only if they are fully free. That is why the enhanced free versions don’t work, they are not the same. The free one has ads, donation does not. You are making money for selling an ad free version using blizzard content as a marketing tool. You wouldn’t be getting he donation if it wasn’t for using blizzard content, so that is why blizzard stopped it. I read this info on wow.joystiq.com a while back. Even with a link to a donation site, you might still be asked to remove it, but I don’t think it breaks their their terms cause you are not giving out something in exchange for the donation, like no ads…

    by V3T on Apr 22, 2011 at 07:22

  30. To bad, i love this app. Hope the change there mind and let you continu this nice peace of art.

by bas on Apr 22, 2011 at 07:27

  31. This is a big loss for all droid WoWers. I have enjoyed using Droid Armory through all it’s growing pains, and am a very satisfied ‘donator’. Blizztard should have created a droid version the same time they built the iOS one.

by TCM on Apr 22, 2011 at 16:13

  32. Really too bad. Your app is sincerely good and I know the hard work performed behind all its functions.
Maybe could it be possible to remove adds from free version while removing some functions as 3d view or notifications ? Then check with Bibli.
All in all, you have made a great job. Congrat’

    by 4rclight on Apr 22, 2011 at 21:03

  33. Sorry to hear sir. I was waiting for the 3d model to work again then donate. Well fuck blizzard and their dumbass devs for being jerks like always…

by ericm on Apr 23, 2011 at 04:26

  34. I have seen both products and yours is by far the best out there. Your time and dedication to your customers and to the game sets the standard. I currently use the free version and have decided to purchase your product. Please keep up the effort and never give up.

by Indorth on Apr 23, 2011 at 05:08

  35. Dude that really sucks. I think I can speak for everyone when I say we all really appreciate what you’ve been doing for us all. Good luck in your future endeavors.

by danke on Apr 23, 2011 at 05:13

  36. This really is sad and not cool I love this app it helps me pass a lot of time at work to check progress of my friends I don’t play with any more, I really hope it all works out, but if not I do want to say thanks for this great app while my time with it so far has been short its unbeatable to me.

by oreo on Apr 23, 2011 at 15:52

  37. You did great, I am sorry that they are doing this. I hope you don’t stop what you do and possibly find out what violations you had and go beyond them. Best of luck

by mark on Apr 23, 2011 at 19:06

  38. This blows. I’ve always been one for supporting indie developers, but it seems like The Man is always being a corporate asshole. The amount of money Orabig was making was probably miniscule compared to what Blizz/Acti was making (no offense Orabig) but they want every last penny that “belongs” to them. This is part of the reason why I don’t really care for big business.

    by aleio16 on Apr 23, 2011 at 22:20

  39. This is lame sauce… one of the few apps I use continuously on my phone. You are awesome and keeep doing what you do. It stupid how they shut this down cuz people felt like helping someone who put so much hard work into a great app. This makes me a sad panda

    by 404error on Apr 24, 2011 at 04:23

  40. I think you’ve been shafted, glad I got to donate before this happened, you deserve something for the hours you put in when blizzard couldn’t be bothered to. I’ll keep using your version till blizzard breaks it somehow.

by Tony on Apr 24, 2011 at 04:45

  41. Rediculous. I still will use it till my phone explodes

by jessiica on Apr 24, 2011 at 04:54

  42. I feel the same as everyone who’s ever used this app. Free or pay I feel its the easiestt, best app for WOW, blizzard sucks for squashing a good app. The people above are right blizzard should pay you for your time and service . Take this app and make it fit

by jp on Apr 24, 2011 at 15:35

  43. That isn’t fair :( I hope we can find some way around this to keep this great app going!

by anekka on Apr 24, 2011 at 19:05

  44. I’m sorry. The hard work u put into this amazing app is apparent. If Blizzard has a brain they will hire u and have u continue on with this. Take care.

by Sandy on Apr 24, 2011 at 23:54

  45. Truly a shame. I hope something changes this is easily the most used app I have.

by Paul on Apr 25, 2011 at 05:38

  46. Sucks for sure. I loved using this app, it was great! Maybe you can figure out a way to continue your work. and We all wish you well in your future endeavors and do nott let the business world bring youdown bro.

by Konaim on Apr 25, 2011 at 08:22

  47. Blizz just wants to milk every penny they can out of us because of all the money they’re losing to Rift!

by Hashshashin on Apr 26, 2011 at 02:04

  48. We should make a mega thread in wow official forums either let you continue developing this awesome app or Blizzard get their butt off and start developing official one for android.

by Nomad on Apr 26, 2011 at 09:35

  49. Blizzard now has armory for the android. They combined the remote auction house with armoury and just released it midnight. Sorry man! Thx for the awesome ride and giving us what we needed while blizzard ignored us! Good luck!

by firesonman on Apr 26, 2011 at 14:40

  50. We should all boycott blizz untill they let you put it back up those greedy nastards

by chris on Apr 26, 2011 at 17:29

  52. Hey mate,
Enjoy your app. Keep an eye on the source code for your app and blizzards new app. Make sure they don’t pirate your app.

by Olaf on Apr 27, 2011 at 18:20

  53. Blizz’s android app is “ok” but it lacks features yours has (had). I for one have had it with blizz any way from the mess they have made of wow to the salavating greed and poor treatment of players and private developers such as your self. My sub runs out in may I wont be returning. Great job really sorry to hear your getting shafted. Maybe i’ll see you with a RIFT App :)

by Mayonaise on Apr 30, 2011 at 07:58

  54. This is complete BS. I say we all call Blizzard and threaten to suspended our accounts for 1 month. Over 250,000 downloads * $14.99 = $3747500.00 in just a month.

by Chris on May 1, 2011 at 01:38

  55. I still prefer your app over blizz’s app, they should hire you the combine both. I will complain on blizz forums.

    Yours archie

by archiedonza on May 2, 2011 at 09:47

  58. Blizz seems to have been inspired by your app. Good job! But yours is better , so I sent you another donation. Keep up the good work!

You can probably sue blizz for taking your ideas. Keep us in the loop. I’ll let blizz know I’ll drop ‘em if they continue to take your ideas.

by Myk Rafone on May 2, 2011 at 14:26

  59. The reason for the paid version was removed, is highly likely to be the same reason as your not allowed to sell addons for wow. Blizzard don’t like people being able to profit on products based on their games, which I guess in the end is a good policy to have, even if I think it should be optional, if they deliver a free version which is the same.

by zakihashi on May 5, 2011 at 05:21

  60. Yeah, I got the same letter from Blizzard yanking my soundboard apps of Leeroy Jenkins and Troxxed. Not sure how sound clips of someone playing their games infringes on their copyright. Mine were free apps too, though they had ads in them, which aren’t exactly making me megabucks. I think I’ve made $50 in a whole year, which I have yet to see a penny of. Seems like they’re trying to nix any third party apps that even mention WoW or Starcraft.

by Steve on May 7, 2011 at 08:51

  61. They should just hire you!
