Here is certainly one of the biggest release I’ve done since the beggining of this project. There were so many changes, bug fixes and improvements that I cannot name them all, but here is a try :
- Image loading have been improved in many screens (stability and memory management)
- Internal bug-logging system has been rewriten and improved. The log server has been changed also. (the new one is even more expensive than the last one, though…)
- OpenGL Texture compression has been implemented to improve performance and reduce 3D views memory usage (but is not used yet, because my server which is supposed to pre-compress the textures is not ready yet…). S2TC (nVidia) and ATC (AMD) compression formats are supported. I couldn’t test PVRTC format, because I don’t own any compatible device for this…
- 3D model loading have been greatly improved using my new server because they don’t need to know the displayId of the items anymore… The loading is now very fast with a Wifi connection.
- 3D view now has a preloading step, which speeds up the whole process.
- I managed to gain some millis/frame with some 3D rendering optimisations. Two full days of work and 2 FPS won … Nice
- Some 3D artefacts where removed (goblins had strange blinks, and werewolfes had additional arms on the floor.) Fixed.
- Memory usage has been greatly reduced. It will remove the “Out of memory” error messages in most cases. I succeded into displaying 3D models on my good-old HTC Hero again.
- All screens can now go in landscape mode on bigger screens (ie Android Tablets).
- The main screen and the character screen are now split when in landscape, so that the favorite characters list and the items list can been shown on right side. Using the application on an Android Tablet is now very convenient, fast and it looks nice ! And if you don’t own one already, get a Droid Tablet, it rocks !!!!
- A cache purge function has been added in the help menu.
- Cache management was improved (it knows how to handle 404 errors now), and some minor bugs were fixed.
- Texture animation has been implemented ! Some weapons or armor pieces are now live… (but item animation is not ready yet…)
- Transmogrification is now supported when displaying your characters in 3D !
- You can now view some items in 3D. (at this time, only weapons, shields, shoulders and helms can be showned)
- Horde characters are back in Orgrimar ! (Stormwind stinks for them anyway…)
- A network performance gauge has been initialized (it’s showing while the 3D toon preloads), and should be improved in a near future.
